Five people are dead, including two law enforcement officers, following a standoff in Boone, North Carolina.
The situation started on Wednesday afternoon in a residential neighborhood when the Watauga County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check, WNCT reported.
A standoff carried on for hours, and by Thursday morning, two sheriff's deputies were killed, and the shooting suspect and his parents were found dead, according to WCNC reporter Hunter Saenz.
The Watauga County Sheriff's Office said a Boone police officer that was assisting with the situation was also shot during the standoff, but a helmet saved his life.
